Placenta Encapsulation FAQ

What is placenta encapsulation?

Placenta encapsulation refers to the process of turning the placenta into capsules to consume after birth. The placenta is cleaned, dehydrated, ground into powder, and put into capsules. I use the RAW Method, skipping the heating and herbs to preserve nutrients. Some believe steaming the placenta reduces these essential nutrients. A placenta piece can also be used to make a tincture.

Why encapsulate my placenta?

Encapsulating your placenta may offer benefits such as increased energy, faster recovery, and hormone regulation after giving birth. While scientific research is sparse, and evidence is largely anecdotal, this ancient practice is catching on in the United States. Across millennia, mothers in the Far East, China, and worldwide have celebrated the benefits of consuming placenta.

Consuming the placenta can enhance oxytocin release, aid mood stability, reduce postpartum bleeding, and promote bonding and well-being. Mothers who utilize placenta encapsulation report increased breast milk production, reduced postpartum depression and anxiety, higher energy levels (attributed to replenishing iron and vitamin B), less post-birth pain, and faster wound healing.

Many mothers compare their postpartum experiences with and without placenta encapsulation, noting potential mental, physical, and emotional benefits.
